Matcha Yoda Macarons

I know, I should just re-name this blog Sugared Star Wars, but I couldn't NOT do something for May the 4th, now could I?

Since I've been on an Original Trilogy and New Trilogy high ever since The Last Jedi came out, my friends and I decided to give the Prequel Trilogy some love this Star Wars Day.  We'll be binging as many as we can handle tonight while eating a few Star Wars treats and ordering takeout.

My macaron skills could still use some finessing, but I've come a long way since my first several failed attempts that left my cookies stuck to the sheet or slumped to one side (how does that even happen?).  I used the same recipe as my Mockingjay Macarons, just add a couple teaspoons of Matcha powder as you're sifting together the powdered sugar and almond flour.

And if you're looking for more Star Wars treats, why I'm glad you asked!  Check out our Wookiee Cookies, or BB-8 truffles or Crait Margaritas or Porgeos or Crait Cookies or Chocolate Death Star

And May the Fourth be with you always.

Master Yoda Matcha Macarons

  • 3 Egg Whites (at room temperature)

  • ¼ cup white sugar (50 g)

  • pinch of salt

  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar (2 ml)

  • 2 cups confectioners sugar (200 g)

  • 1 cup almond flour (120 g)

  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder

follow the recipe here, and add your matcha powder to the almond flour mixture.

Set about 1/4 cup of the mixture into a piping bag with a #2 tip for the details.  Pipe your yoda-shaped heads, wait about 5 minutes, then pipe on the details and wait an additional 10 minutes before baking.  These cookies go well with a cream cheese frosting filling.
